Fantastic voyage
Portrait of David Bowie by Sara Captain, gouache and acrylic ink on board. This bright multi coloured portrait shows Bowie reading a blank book with an imaginary Kyoto garden in teh background. The title suggests that through reading, we can travel to any far flung place with our imagination. Sara Captain depicts Bowie as the avid reader he was, communicating with this painting the power of literature to teach us, guide us and transport us - making us intellectually crurious. The portrait uses one of Sara Captain's signature devices in that the book comes out of the frame, suggesting that the viewers can interact with the artwork. It is striking image with rich reds, blues, pinks against a black outline.
